Dr O’Kelly joined the CQC as Chief Inspector of Hospitals and Interim Chief Inspector of Primary Medical Services in June 2022. Following degrees in Medicine and Psychology and postgraduate training in paediatrics and anaesthetics Dr O’Kelly worked at the University of Michigan as Associate Professor and Director of Paediatric Cardiac Anaesthesia. Dr O’Kelly returned to England as an NHS Consultant Anaesthetist before being seconded to the Department of Health as Associate Medical Director to the Deputy Chief Medical Officer. This was followed by NHS Trust Medical Director roles in small, medium and large Trusts before joining NHSI in 2017 and becoming Regional Medical Director NHSEI for the East of England Region in 2019.
