Ramani Moonesinghe

National Clinical Director for Critical and Perioperative Care, NHS England and NHS Improvement
Ramani is a clinical academic and health service leader. At UCL she is head of her research department and of the Centre for Perioperative Medicine. Her research focuses on developing and evaluating novel interventions (including technologies) and pathways, risk prediction and improvement research. She recently demitted from the role of Director of the Health Services Research Centre at the Royal College of Anaesthetists after 6 years in post. She has led clinical studies recruiting over 80,000 participants to the NIHR portfolio in >94% of NHS hospitals. In her role for NHS England, Ramani was the senior clinical advisor supporting the national critical care response to COVID19, covering a range of areas including procurement, equipment, medicines, workforce, clinical guidelines, quality and safety. She now leads transformation programmes in critical care and perioperative care, the latter with a specific focus on supporting elective recovery. Ramani was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2021 Queen’s New Year’s Honours for service to anaesthesia, perioperative and critical care.
