Jo Simpson is a Consultant Anaesthetist at Colchester Hospital, Lead for Preoperative Assessment and Perioperative Medicine, and NHSE East of England Lead for Perioperative Medicine. Her clinical interests are in perioperative medicine, and obstetric and vascular anaesthesia. She set up and runs the Colchester Older Persons’ evaluation for Surgery preassessment clinic. She worked with the Surgical Outcomes Research Centre team and NCEPOD to devise the Surgical Outcome Risk Tool (SORT), which is now widely used nationally in perioperative risk assessment.
