Dr Carl Waldmann has been a Consultant in ICM and Anaesthesia at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading since joining as Director of ICU in 1986. Apart from his interests in the management of Head Injured patients in a DGH, the procurement and implementation of a Clinical Information System in ICU, his passion has been setting up and running an ICU follow-up clinic in Reading since 1992. From May 2007 to May 2009 he was President of the ICS, then became Dean of the FICM 2016-2019, and Treasurer of the ESICM 2015-2018. At present Carl is Chair of the Critcal Care Leadership Forum (CCLF). In addition he has been the editor of Care of the Critically Ill and founding editor of JICS. He has been editor of the Oxford Desk Reference and Law and Ethics in Intensive Care textbooks. More recently Carl led the Life after Critical Illness working party formed in 2019, and the document was published in October 2021. Carl also has an interest in pre-hospital care and is club doctor for Leyton Orient FC.
