The population of the developed world is rapidly aging. While numerical age is increasingly less important, physiological or functional age is a determinant of quality of life especially after an acute illness. This talk will focus on data on outcomes from critical illness that are modified by frailty, and how these facts could and should be framed for discussions with patients and families.
